CORRY JV WINS #9 AT MEADVILLE

Corry JV out served and out passed Meadville to get a win in 2 sets.  Meadville is a younger team with 9 freshman and a few sophomores.  They are athletic, but were out hustled by Corry in every phase of the game.

Keys to Outcome & Coach’s Comments:

In set 1 Corry opened up the lead behind the tough serving of sophomore libero, Sydney Woods.  With the score tied at 4, Corry got a side-out and Woods served 5 consecutive points including 2 aces to give Corry a 10-4 lead.  Corry passing was nearly perfect, allowing 6 different hitters to each notch a kill.  Towards the end of the set, setter Kendyll Chamberlin also contributed at the service line with a run, totaling 6 service points in the set.

In set 2, the freshman / sophomore mixed lineup was a little more closely matched with Meadville, but still outplayed Meadville in all phases of the game.  In identical fashion to set 1, except a different Sydney at the line, freshman libero Sydney Mineo opened up the Corry lead with 5 consecutive service points including 2 aces.  Corry serving continued to dominate this set with Corry servers combining for 8 aces.  Outside hitter, Tori Kinney had 4 nearly perfect passes in serve-receive allowing us to run effective offense and quickly side out.  Outside hitter, Emmalee Carr, punctuated the win with a hard-hit crosscourt kill.

Match Stats:

Corry servers combined for 15 aces in the match, the most in any two sets this season.  Woods had 9 service points and 4 aces, while Mineo and Chamberlin had 6 service points and 3 aces apiece.  Carr led the hitters with 3 kills, as 10 different Corry hitters combined for 15 kills. Carr also led the team with 5 digs, followed by Woods with 4, Kinney with 3, and Mineo with 3.  Brynley Watrous had 11 assists and Chamberlin had 4.

Overall, Corry played very well.  In set 2 there was were some break downs in the defense and communication that we will be working on in practice, but the coaching staff was pleased with the effort and attitudes throughout the match.

Our next match is at home against Girard on Wednesday.
